Waite-Smith-Rider pack

Two cards from the Waite-Smith-Rider pack. The Trumps, or Major Arcana, are redesigned to incorporate ideas of the Golden Dawn and, in the instance of the Chariot, here, even includes some Egyptian symbolism despite Waite’s reservations. The suit cards, or Minor Arcana, were changed more radically, incorporating scenes to illustrate the cards’ meanings; traditional packs show only the relevant number of objects (Cups, Coins, Staves or Swords), like standard playing cards. Here, the card traditionally called the Ten of Coins or Deniers becomes the Ten of Pentacles, and the Pentacles are arranged like the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. The background scene illustrates the idea of prosperity, gain and family matters associated with the card.
